Recent leaks revealed two new Samsung smartphones, model numbers SM-G950 and SM-G955. Samsung is expected to release two variants of the Galaxy S8: one with a 5.7-inch display and one with a 6.2-inch display. The screen size increase is likely to attract fans of the canceled Note 7. It’s also speculated that one of these phones could have a bezel-less design and lose it's home button to feature a screen with more than 90% screen to body ratio. Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy S8 in February.

Another day, another recall. At least that's how it feels lately. The victim this time is GoPro's Karma drone. The drone was on the market for only 16 days and only 2,500 of them have been sold thus far. CEO Nicholas Woodman stated, “A very small number of Karma owners have reported incidents of power failure during operation. We have moved quickly to recall all units of Karma and provide a full refund while we investigate the issue." Word of this recall caused GoPro stock price to drop nearly 8%.

Two years ago Google introduced Android Auto to give drivers an easier and safer way to access information on the road. Over 200 new car models currently support Android Auto with specific in-dash units. Today, Google gets rid of the car requirement and introduces a new way to use Android Auto: right on your phone screen. You can automatically start the app when the phone is paired to your car's Bluetooth to access directions, music and communications without the distractions. The update is available now in the Play Store.

The CEO of Huawei's consumer business group, says he wants the Chinese company to overtake Apple as the second biggest smartphone manufacturer within the next two years. Huawei currently has 9.3% market share, Apple has 12.5% and Samsung sits atop with 20%. Huawei just unveiled a new smartphone, the Huawei Mate 9 alongside some rave first impressions. With Samsung canceling the Note 7 and a soft response to Apple’s new iPhone, Huawei is in position to take advantage of it's competitor’s shortcomings. Electric longboard maker Boosted Boards are urging customers to cease use of their newest board, not charge it and keep it away from flammable objects. This is due to the company investigating two incidents of overheating batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are light and compact but can potentially be volatile. This sometimes leads to trouble for manufacturers like Samsung's Galaxy Note 7. However, Boosted Boards appears to be ahead of the situation by informing their customers sooner rather than later.

One stigma the Android platform has had to live with is its alleged lack of security compared to iPhone. Adrian Ludwig, Android's director of security, now states that less than 1% of the billions of Android phones contain malware because Android has a built-in Safety Net that scans 400 million devices per day, along with 6 billion apps. When asked whether Google's Pixel phones are as secure as the iPhone, Ludwig replied “for sure” and then added that Android will soon “be better”.
