Android phones are all over the place and Google doesn't have that much control over them. Outside of its Nexus devices even Google's software is altered with skins and overlays. However, an analyst stated that Google is concerned about Android fragmenting and that they mean to control more of the platform similar to Apple by releasing hardware along with their software. Google already does this with it's Pixel branded laptops and tablets. This is likely to happen with smartphones for a more well-rounded slate of products. Could we see a Pixel smartphone?
