Google has officially confirmed that after three years in development, Project Ara has been cancelled. Project Ara captured many tech enthusiasts' imaginations with the possibility of upgrading individual phone components, or swapping out those components for different applications. According to sources, the cancellation is part of a broader streamlining of the company’s hardware production. Google's next smartphone announcement is scheduled for October 4th.
