LG Announces Software Upgrade Center in Korea For Fast Smartphone Software Updates

LG has announced a new Software Upgrade Center that’s purpose is to deliver “faster, timelier, smartphone software updates worldwide.
LG executives are also promising better customer experience with their next flagship phones. A special team at the LG Science Park in Seoul, South Korea will ensure a “consistent user experience on LG devices by continuously testing the stability and compatibility between hardware and software after updates.”
Customers can get instant access through the ‘Quick Help’ app installed on the phones. This will be one of LG’s new business strategies to ensure that consumers are satisfied with their hardware and services.
The first task for the center will be pushing out the Android Oreo update to the LG G6. This is expected to be finalized in Korea by the end of this month with other markets to soon follow.

LG Confirms G7 Upcoming Release Date with Possible Name Change

LG recently confirmed that its next flagship smartphone will be officially introduced in South Korea in late April. Preorders for the LG G7 will begin one week later and should hit shelves in mid-May.
The G7 is expected to include LG’s first ever rear dual camera to feature an f.1/5 aperture for better and brighter pictures. The controversial notch will be included as well, along with this year’s powerful Snapdragon 845 processor.
LG also confirmed that the G7 will be priced reasonably since the company managed to reduce costs by using LCD panels instead of OLEDs.
The company is reportedly considering a name change for the device so that potential customers realize it’s a brand new product. Say hello to the LG G7 ThinkQ.

Everything You Need To Know About The LG V30: Specs, Release Date and Price

After much speculation and rumors, LG took to the stage to officially announce the V30. This is the company’s follow-up to last year’s V20, although it appears to have received a much more polished design similar to the G6.
What’s new, you ask? Well, the first thing you are going to notice is the new metal and glass design. The bezels on the phone have been significantly reduced also. This allows LG to place a 6″ POLED display in a sleek looking phone without it feeling massive in the hand. LG seems to have thrown all the bells and whistles into the V30, just take a look at the specs.
LG V30 Specs:
  • Display – 6.0″ POLED QHD+ (2880×1440)
  • Processor – Qualcomm Snapdragon 835
  • Storage – 64GB, SD card up to 2TB
  • Memory – 4GB of RAM
  • Cameras – Rear 16MP (f/1.6) & 13MP wide-angle lens, Front: 5MP
  • Battery – 3300mAh, Wireless Charging, Quick Charge 3.0
  • Durability – IP68 Dust and Water Resistance
  • Ports – USB Type-C, 3.5mm Headphone Jack
  • Other – Fingerprint Scanner, Quad Digital Analog Converter (DAC)
  • Colors – Aurora Black, Cloud Silver, Moroccan Blue, Lavender Violet
While LG did do away with the removable battery this time around, the company did hit a lot of the check boxes we are looking for in a flagship phone.
On top of that, the LG V30 will be the world’s first smartphone to support LTE on 600 MHz. Compatibility with 600MHz is a big deal because lower frequency bands travel further and penetrate buildings better. T-Mobile is also utilizing this new frequency to simultaneously lay a foundation for a true nationwide 5G network. This would put the LG V30 at the forefront of mobile technology in-terms of speed and reliability.
Release Date: The LG V30 is set to arrive first in South Korea on September 15. According to sources, this device is expected to start pre-orders on September 17 with a sale date of September 28.
Price:  LG has yet to confirm a price for the V30 in the US unfortunately, although in Europe it is set at €900. Converting this into US dollars would place it at $1069.96. If true, the LG V30 would be the most expensive smartphone in the market. However, considering that the Galaxy Note 7 is priced at $930 in the US, we expect LG to undercut Samsung and list the V30 at around $850.
So, what do you guys think of the V30? Will you be picking one up? Let us know, why or why not.

The LG Q6 Is A Mini, More Affordable G6 Expected Late Summer

LG officially has a new lineup of smartphones to add to it’s family. The LG Q6 is miniature, more affordable version of the company’s flagship, the G6.
The standout feature on the LG Q6 is definitely the FullVision-style display which is the tall 18:9 screen with slim bezels found on the G6. The only difference is that the Q6’s display isn’t as high-res as the G6.

The LG Q6 features a Snapdragon 435 processor, 13-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel wide-angle front camera, face recognition and a 3,000mAh battery packed inside packed an “ultra strong” 7000 series aluminum body.
While the Q6 is lacking the dual camera system and some high-end specs of its G6 counterpart, it does have the tall display with small bezels found on other respectable devices.

The LG Q6 will roll out to Asian in August with Europe, Latin America, and North American markets not long after. LG has yet to say how much the Q6 will cost, although the company did state that it will be competitively priced. Considering it is a mid-range option, we don’t expect anything too crazy.

Samsung Exec Says Solid-State Batteries Will Hit Smartphones Before Electric Cars

According to a recent report, solid-state batteries are expected to replace lithium-ion batteries found in smartphones and similar products within the next few years.
The biggest advantage of batteries being made from solid instead of liquid electrolytes, is the much lower risk of catching fire and exploding. After the Galaxy Note 7 recall, battery safety has become a major concern among manufacturers.
A Samsung executive stated that the company will start manufacturing solid-state batteries in one to two years with the first application being for smartphones. However, this battery technology may not hit the electric vehicle market until 2025, due to the more strict safety regulations.
Could we see solid-state batteries in phones by 2018 or 2019? Honestly, if it’s mature enough to compete with conventional batteries in term of capacity, lifespan and charging speed, a release is possible. Luckily, Samsung isn’t the only company working on the new battery technology. There are a few others including LG, which will reportedly start producing them around the same time.

LG's G6 Second Year Promise Extends Warranties To 2 Years In The United States

LG has announced that they’re extending every G6 warranty from one year to two years in the US.
The company is calling this new program, the LG G6 Second Year Promise and it will offer full coverage from potential defects for an additional 12 months at no extra cost. LG stated that it is noticing customers holding onto their phones for nearly a full 24 months, so extending the manufacturer’s warranty only makes sense to show that they stands by their products.
The company did admit that they have been providing similar benefits to Europeans, but notes that this particular program is exclusive to the United States. G6 customers will have to register their phones on LG’s website within 90 days of purchase or within 90 days of today’s announcement to qualify. The first year of warranty claims will continue to be handled by carriers, but customers will have to call LG or visit the website to make a claim during the second year. New or “newly refurbished” replacements are promised to arrive within two business days of filing a claim.
The LG G6 Second Year Promise won’t replace your phone if it breaks like HTC’s Uh Oh Protection program but it does give US customers a little peace of mind from defects after the first year. Fingers crossed for this becoming a new manufacturers trend going forward.

Reports State, LG Working Directly With Qualcomm To Ensure Snapdragon 845 For G7

According to reports, LG is working directly with Qualcomm to ensure the G7 will have the latest processor available.
Because the Snapdragon 835 processor was tied up with Samsung's Galaxy S8, LG was forced to decide between delaying the G6's release or using last year's hardware. In the end, the company decided to use the Snapdragon 821 and although it may not be much of a difference in everyday usage, many could not look past the difference on paper.

Its likely that LG feels that the processor difference may have differed potential G6 buyers because normally, LG and Samsung flagship devices use the same processor.
The report claims that LG and Qualcomm have started working on the development for the new processor in early May with it being based on a seven nanometer manufacturing process.

LG's V30 Will Support Daydream VR With OLED Display

According to sources, LG will begin making smartphones with OLED screens during the second half of this year.
The company has made OLED displays for quite some time but normally reserves them for their TVs. OLED screens have individually lit pixels which can be turned on and off, allowing for great contrast. LCD displays are back-lit, giving them less control over light levels and contrast.
LG Design Patent With Secondary Display
Sources claim that the LG V30 will be the first, later this September, while the LG G7 could see an OLED screen early next year.
Additionally at the Google I/O 2017, a Google representative recently told attendees that LG's next flagship phone will have support Daydream VR alongside the Galaxy S8. The Samsung Galaxy S8 currently uses OLED display technology along with the powerful Snapdragon 835 processor. Google's leak may have been intentional but it definitely offers an early clue as to what's coming.

Top 6 Reasons To Buy The LG G6 [VIDEO]

LG's decision to ditch the modular design of the G5 was the correct move. Instead of trying to do things that nobody wants, the company nailed the things a high-end smartphone needs to have in 2017.

That being said, these are six reasons why you should buy the LG G6:
  1. Big Screen, Small Phone:  Don't choose between a large screen and in-hand comfort. The LG G6 has a immersive 5.7" display that is easy to manage.
  2. Incredible Viewing Experience: The G6 is the first phone to feature Dolby Vision, which basically means that you're getting the best possible viewing experience.
  3. More Efficient Multitasking: This phone's unique screen ratio gives way to some improved multitasking features for a well balanced user experience.
  4. Reliable Build Quality: The G6 was engineered to be durable and dependable, passing 14 different military standard tests.
  5. A Wider, More Fun Picture: The dual camera setup provides a standard plus a wide angle lens for fun and creative shots.
  6. Your Own Personal Assistant: Ask questions, send messages and even command smart home devices all through voice with Google Assistant.

These are just a few of our top reasons why you should make the LG G6 your next smartphone. Is there anything we left out? Let us know.

There’s definitely a lot of buzz around the flagship phones this year, with each manufacturer expected to bring drastic new designs to their lineup. It seems LG anticipated this and decided to level up their G6. We've been testing the Black LG G6 from T-Mobile for a few weeks now, and have a few thoughts about it. This is our video review of the LG G6.

LG G6 Specs

Display: 5.7” Quad HD Full Vision display 2880 x 1440 (564 ppi) 18:9 screen aspect ratio
Cameras: Rear-facing: 13MP Standard Lens (F 1.8) and 13 MP wide angle (125 degrees)
and a 5MP front-facing camera
Processor / RAM:  Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 / 4GB RAM
Memory: 32GB storage with Mirco SD card support
Battery: 3,300 mAh embedded battery / Wireless Charging / Quick Charge 3.0
Connectivity : Bluetooth 4.2 / Wi-Fi / NFC / USB-C 2.0

LG's decision to ditch the modular design of the G5 was the correct move. Instead of trying to do things that nobody wants, the company nailed the things that a high-end smartphone in 2017 needs to have. Premium build quality, huge display in a compact body, great camera, water resistance and top notch performance. The G6 is sure to be in the running for smartphone of the year.
