Believe it or not, Facebook actually cares about your cellphone's battery life. Inside Facebook's data center are a series of server racks housing smartphones running a version of the company's many mobile apps. This Mobile Device Lab is designed to test Facebook's software on phones. Facebook has almost 2,000 Android and iPhones used to tell developers if their apps have any negative impact on phone memory, response times and battery consumption. Facebook plans to open source the hardware design of its mobile device testing racks so any app developer can have their creation tested.
