The physical Home button of the iPhone was one of it's parts that failed the most. However, it seems Apple built in a safeguard in the event the iPhone 7 solid state Home button fails. If the new Home button fails, iOS 10 immediately sends a warning saying, "The Home Button May Need Service" and offers a software button workaround. Interestingly, we don't know what could cause the new Home button to fail yet, although, most likely it'd be related to the Taptic Engine.
