Drawing at different angles will also change the level of shading. Apple states it is accurate “to the pixel.” The Smart Keyboard is a physical keyboard that snaps magnetically taking advantage of the new magnetic connector and uses the same button technology as MacBook keyboards. This will only work with the iPad Pro. The Pencil cost $99 and the Smart Keyboard will set you back a whopping $169.

Finally, Apple CEO returns to the stage at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium to announce it latest smartphones. This duo of new devices are similar in appearance to it's predecessor but sport a variety of new features. The most talked about feature will have to be Apple's 3D Touch. 3D Touch is the new “taptic engine” that can recognize how hard you touch the screen. Long touches will bring up shortcuts around the new iPhones. For example, the user can peek at an email with a deeper tap and hold and the user can even access applications without opening them thanks to 3D Touch. Both of the new smartphones are packing a new 12 megapixel iSight camera which the company states can take much better low light photos. 4K video support is also provided with the new camera hardware. 14193-9515-Screen-Shot-2015-09-09-at-25841-PM-l_70

Most surprising of all may just be Apple's new iPhone upgrade program. The company announced a monthly payment plan within their retail stores that allows customers to upgrade to the new iPhone every year starting at $32/month. This will include an unlocked phone and AppleCare! Device monthly payment plans may not be exactly new, as some carriers have been trying out payment plans like this for over a year now. What is new about this is the fact that, the customer will be doing this straight from the manufacturer! It will be interesting to see if other manufacturers follow Apple's direction with this. These new smartphones will be on pre-order September 12th and official launch date is September 25th.

SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 5 AND S6 EDGE+: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

After weeks and weeks of rumors and leaks, we have the official unveiling of Samsung's newest phablet devices. That's right, early today Samsung took to the stage in New York City to announce not one but two large-and-in-charge smartphones. The CEO of Samsung Mobile JK Shin reminds us that Samsung is single-handedly responsible for creating the phablet category stating that the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ are the next step forward of their popular flagships. Here's what we will get with the Note 5:

Samsung Galaxy Note 5
  • 5.7” Quad HD Super AMOLED display
  • Octa-core (2.1GHz Quad + 1.5GHz Quad), 64 bit process
  • 4GB RAM (LPDDR4) , 32/64GB (UFS 2.0)
  • Rear : 16MP with Optic Image Stabilization , Front : 5MP
  • 3,000mAh Battery, Fast Charging both wired and wireless
  • Near Field Communication for payments
  • Fingerprint scanner for added security and authorization
  • Android 5.1 Lollipop
The S pen which is the included stylus pen of the Galaxy Note 5 has received some new improvements as well. Our favorite has to be the ability to jot down notes even when the display isn't on. This is performed when the phone is idel and the display isn't illuminated. Simply, unsheathe the S pen from the phone and write onto the black screen of the idle phone. This new feature is perfect for any user needing to quickly write something down. What's just as interesting but may be more important to some are the features that are missing from the phone. Here is a list of what we won't receive with the Galaxy Note 5:
  • No micro SD card slot
  • No USB Type C
  • No infrared blaster
  • No removable battery
Along the side of an improved Note 5 was the unveiling of the Galaxy S6 Edge+. This is the simply a larger version of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge that was released earlier this year. That being said, this version isn't without some perks. The S6 Edge+ sports a larger battery than it's predecessor and it also has improved optical image stabilization for even smoother video recording. The edge display software has received improvement as well with "Apps Edge.” This acts as an area of shortcuts to quickly launch some of your favorite applications.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+
  • 5.7" Quad HD Super AMOLED display with curved edges
  • Exynos 7420 (64bit, 14nm) Octa core (2.1GHz Quad + 1.5GHz Quad)
  • 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM
  • 32GB or 64GB  storage, non-expandable
  • 16.0MP OIS rear camera, 5.0MP front camera
  • 3,000mAh battery with fast charging and fast wireless charging
  • NFC for payments, fingerprint scanner for authorization
  • Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+ will be available for pre-order starting today and will be officially on sale August 21st. Although, if you want to get your hands on the phone before launch, the phone should be on display at more than 7,000 stores around the US tomorrow, August 14th. Simply ask your local sales representative to take a peak at these new devices.  Now is the perfect time to upgrade. If you are not a fan of these new phones, remember that their previous models will be going be getting a price drop.

CARRIERS BEGIN PROVIDING FIX FOR TEXT MESSAGE HACK

Screenshot_2015-08-10-08-30-09The first wave of Android handsets obtaining the Stagefright vulnerability patch are here. T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T step-up to provide a few of their respectable Samsung devices with a a software update to protect users against malicious MMS messages. Starting today, the T-Mobile and Verizon variants of the Galaxy Note 4 and Note 4 Edge have begun to receive this update. AT&T provides the same update to Galaxy S 6 and S6 Edge. Additionally, the update can also be found available on T-Mobile's Galaxy S5.

Nearly every cellphone service provider and manufacturer have promised a roll-out of these required software patches. Although, it appears that only Samsung is hitting the gate running and dominating all other Android manufacturers with an urgency demanded from such potentially harmful risks.

Once your device or devices receive the update, do not delay. Protect yourself by taking advantage as soon as possible. To check for it, simply head into Settings > About phone > Software update > Ok.

*Tip: Make sure that you have at least 50 percent battery life and a Wi-Fi connection.

DON'T WAIT FOR WINDOWS 10 UPDATE

Already reserved your upgrade of the new and improved Windows 10? Still waiting? Microsoft states that the free upgrade from Windows 7 or 8 could take as long as "a few weeks." Patience is a virtue. Or is it? This wait seems like far too long of a time frame especially when nearly 14 million users are currently enjoying the new functions of Windows 10. For those seeking instant gratification, we are glad to share with you a completely legitimate way for you to skip the reservation list and start using the updated operating system today.
windows 10 capture
Warning: Getting this free copy of Windows 10 only applies to Windows 7 or 8 users with valid license keys. All other users will have to purchase an activation key.

To take advantage of this, make your way to Microsoft’s Windows 10 download page. Choose either the 32-bit version or the 64-bit version to begin your download. Not sure which to download? Simply match your existing version. Using 64-bit Windows 7 or 8? (Which most users are) Download this version.

Continue through the prompts, select “Upgrade this PC now.” Continue the installation and if you want to keep everything as is, select “Keep personal files and apps.” The download tool provides a confirmation of the settings you’ve chosen for upgrade; if everything looks right, click on "Install."

Microsoft also states that they will continue to provide their latest operating system without any cost for one year to all current users of Windows 7 and 8. Although, we have noticed that Windows 10 software packages are being sold by major retailers between $100 and $200. Our suggestion would be to only purchase this software if you are building a PC. Instead, most consumers should look to purchase discounted computers or laptops that have Windows 8 installed and simply update the software.

PHONES AT RISK FROM TEXT MESSAGE HACK

As we previously reported, Google has placed a 'bug bounty' for research teams to discover potential threats to the Google Chrome web browser. Google has paid out $4 million since the bug bounty begain in 2010 and it seems a researcher named Zimperium, has uncovered a new vulnerability that has the potential to wreak havoc on our beloved Android devices.

This researcher states that the flaw exists within a media playback tool within the mobile software called Stagefright. By simply sending a text message, hackers could acquire complete control over the device and allow them to steal any content on it. The malware hides inside of a short video and as soon as the text is received, built in features to reduce time for viewing processes the video. It seems that short amount of time to process the video is enough for hackers to take control. This would include all personal information or credit cards.

A Google spokewoman had this to say regarding the mobile threat,
"The security of Android users is extremely important to us and so we responded quickly and patches have already been provided to partners that can be applied to any device." The Google spokeswoman went on to add, "Most Android devices, including all newer devices, have multiple technologies that are designed to make exploitation more difficult. Android devices also include an application sandbox designed to protect user data and other applications on the device."
unnamed
Zimperium sent the patch that has been accepted to Google. He told the National Public Radio that he estimates only 20 percent to 50 percent of Android devices will actually get the updates due to vendors being slow to react -- if they react at all. You see unfortunately, fixes to the popular mobile operating system take time. To resolve issues within Android, Google provides patches through software updates handed down to device manufacturers. These manufacturers include Samsung, LG, HTC among many others to then provide these software updates to the cellphone service providers. It is then up to these carriers to push the updates to each phone. You can start to see how long this process could take. Thus many devices rarely receive the latest software available to them.

Currently, Zimperium tells the National Public Radio that the flaw has not been exploited. However, expressing the severity in a recent blog post, he states that 95 percent of Android devices worldwide are vulnerable.

TOP 3 REASONS TO UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10

The launch of Windows 10 actually has people exciting about the operating system again because it seems Microsoft actually got the message from it's users regarding Windows 8. Here are a few reasons to upgrade.Cortana_Alarm

Number three: it is free! How will Microsoft get all of it's current users to update from your current operating system? By not charging for the new one. Windows 10 will be free for one year, for anyone running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. If you're running an earlier version or don't upgrade by that time, you will be able to pick up Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro ranging from $119 - $199.

Number two: Cortana. Microsoft's virtual assistant called Cortana has made the jump from smartphones and tablets to desktop. Simply say "Hey, Cortana" after activating the voice recognition feature and the user can give commands to the PC. Examples include searching for directions or checking the weather. Cortana also has the ability to send emails that you dictate to your contacts.

Number one: the return of the Start Mwin10-start_01enu. If you disliked the windows 8's full screen start menu as much as we do, you are in luck. The new and improved start menu relates back to the good ol' days located in the lower left corner of the screen. It features the familiar pop-up column and provides a few tricks including the Live Tiles that were found on Windows 8.

SECURITY FLAWS PATCHED IN CHROME UPDATE

chrome update

As part of Google's bug bounty program, researchers have been granted financial rewards based on the severity of the issue. Nearly, $40,000 has been awarded to security researchers in total. Bug bounties continue to be a valuable way for software vendors to use third-party specialists to detect security flaws. This results in problems being addressed faster and updates being provided to users, thus keeping them safe from exploitation.

On Wednesday, Google provided the public release of Chrome 44 for Windows, Mac and Linux. As part of the Chrome 44 update, 43 bugs have been fixed. The most severe issue include universal cross-site scripting, a flaw which allows executable files to run immediately after download and a content security policy bypass in the Chrome browser.
To protect yourself against some of these potential security flaws, Google recommends setting up auto-downloads of the browser updates. If you do not have this feature set-up you will need to manually update your Chrome browser. This can be done by opening your Chrome browser and locating the three horizontal lines at the top-right position of the browser. These lines indicate the ability to customize and control the browser settings. Click this for a drop-down menu to appear. Select "About Google Chrome" toward the bottom of this menu for the browser to search for the most recent update available. Approve this update to protect yourself from potential security flaws.

GOOGLE+ PHOTOS SHUTTING DOWN

The new Google Photos application has been available for nearly two months now. It appears that the time has come for the original Google+ Photos to be discarded to the trash can. Today Google announced that on August 1 of this year, the photo section that was integrated into the Google+ will be shut down in favor of the new stand-alone Google Photos application. This just in from Google:
"In an effort to ensure everyone has the best photos experience we can deliver, on August 1st we'll start to shut down Google+ Photos — initially on Android, and soon thereafter on the Web and iOS."
This means that if you are not already ahead of the game, to be sure to make the switch to the new Google Photos app ahead of August 1. All of your photos and videos will transition to the new application, so you don't have to worry about losing any of your content. All you are actually doing is breaking the original functionality from Google+ and continuing with Google Photos.

If you are unfamiliar with the Google Photos app our lead product reviewer has provided a video review regarding this recently released cloud storage application.

GOOGLE HELPS YOU PICK A NEW PHONE

Screenshot_2015-06-17-01-25-04-2Shopping online or in a retail store for a new phone may become a little overwhelming when you realize just how many options are available. If you are in the market for a brand new Android smartphone, Google may have a new tool to help you make a decision.
This new tool from Google is simply called Which Phone and it is a website designed to help the user choose the right Android phone based on their personal preferences. The site starts by asking, "what you would like your new phone to be used for?" Options include taking photos, listening to music, being productive, social media and gaming among others. This selection process repeats at least twice more with the option to continue to narrow down the suggestion. Once the user decides to proceed, the "show me phones" icon appears with the ability to choose your wireless carrier.
After doing so Google's new tool provides at least one match for the user. In our testing, we decided to chose what we repeatedly do with our current device which was taking photos, being productive and watching videos. The results were well received with the Nexus 6, LG G4 and the Galaxy Note 4. The Nexus 6 is our current daily driver, while the G4 is our latest favorite device and will soon become our next phone to use and review. Also the Note 4 is one that we recommend often.Screenshot_2015-06-11-23-18-46-2
While our testing results were favorable, expect most suggestions from Google's tool to vary between the latest flagship devices from the most popular manufacturers. One option we would like Google to add is price. You can't assume everyone has the means to afford the latest and greatest devices.
The results from the Which Phone website from Google may not be accurate for every user but it is very helpful to have one more resource available in your search for a new Android phone.

UNDO SENT EMAILS WITH GMAIL

We all have been there; having second thoughts immediately after sending an email. Whether it was because of a lack of proof reading or maybe you said something you didn’t mean to. Don’t you wish there was a way to prevent your email from being received? Google has finally provided the answer to one of the most serious email pain points. After six years in the lab, “Undo Send” is finally available for Gmail.
This feature is current only available through the Gmail website but after testing you can be sure that it will make it’s way into the mobile application as well.
undo send
To enable this new feature, you will first need to log into your email account on the Gmail website. Afterwards navigate to your “Settings” pane located directly below your profile picture and you’ll be given the option to “Enable Undo Send.” Additionally you are provided with a drop-down that lets you choose the undo period for the feature: 5, 10, 20 or 30 seconds.
We have ours got set to 30 seconds because it is not too long or short of a time frame plus you can never be too careful. So give the new feature a try and who knows, maybe you will be able to sleep easier knowing you didn’t send that article to your boss with all of those grammatical errors.
UPDATE: The app Inbox which was created by Gmail now supports this “Undo Send” feature in it’s mobile application which also leads us to believe it it definitely make it’s way to the Gmail app as well sometime soon.

STICKER BEHIND SAMSUNG BATTERY NOT SPY CHIP!

That little sticker behind your Samsung Battery is not a spy chip! This is a public service announcement, "Samsung is not using a sticker hidden behind your battery to obtain your content or for government surveillance."

It is easy to fear the unknown. In fact, this is happening right now on Facebook thanks to a few videos going viral of a couple of men pealing back the sticker of a Samsung battery claiming a "disturbing discovery."

This is usually the sort of thing that we would sit back and chuckle about. However, as the videos became more frequent, we decided to inform users instead of just watching them remove unique features from their devices and shouting conspiracy from the internet roof tops.

The sticker behind the Samsung battery is without a doubt a chip but not what some people have come to think. It is called a NFC chip or near field communication. This technology enables devices to establish radio communication with each other by touching the devices together or bringing them with a close proximity. The most popular example of this is Apple Pay or Google Wallet. Many retailers already have contactless terminals that are NFC-based in place, making the transition to mobile payments easy. Other common functions of NFC is called Android Beam which uses this technology to exchange information between two Android phones. We are sure you've seen those Samsung commercials, placing two phones back-to-back and exchanging an item.

It should be known that usually NFC chips are sealed within the plastic backs of most devices. Although, Samsung made the business decision to place this chip behind the battery sticker because they want the user to purchase their specific model for battery replacement.

This is one of the technical things that most people are simply unaware of because it hasn't been made universal among all devices. Unfortunately, when misunderstanding and slight paranoia combine, madness is soon to follow. So please do not attempt to remove the NFC sticker from your batteries. The chip is not acquiring your information in any way no matter what Facebook tells you. Instead try something new and make a mobile payment or two. Who knows, you may find it more convenient than carrying around your purse or wallet.

WHAT'S AFTER 4G LTE SPEEDS? ENTER 5G.

The Next Generation Mobile Networks Alliance states that,
“5G is an end-to-end ecosystem to enable a fully mobile and connected society. It empowers value creation toward customers and partners, through existing and emerging use cases delivered with consistent experience and enabled by sustainable business models.”

Essentially, LTE is the foundation of the 5G radio access network below 6 GHz while the frequencies from 6 GHz to 100 GHz will explore new technologies in parallel. 5G raises the bar to a massive multiple-input multiple-output technology, a large array of radiating elements that extends the antenna matrix to a new level and takes a leap of faith in wireless network speed and coverage.

The overall goals of 5G technology are to increase capacity by a thousand, support more than a hundred billion connections up to 10 GB/s speeds and keep latency below one millisecond.

The early blueprint of 5G pilot networks mostly comprises of beam-forming technology and small cell base stations. Companies like Nokia, Samsung and Ericsson have launched pilot projects and so far the results have been encouraging.

The wireless industry is broadly targeting 2020 for the widespread deployment of 5G networks.

GOOGLE PHOTOS APP REVIEW

Google recently re-released their Google Photos application. They decided to break it away from Google+ and make it a stand alone app with many new features and improvements.

This new Google photos app offers the user free unlimited storage of all photos and videos. With an auto backup feature from it's Android and now iPhone apps, you don't ever have to worry about saving your photos again. Google is able to provide free unlimited storage through compression. Photos above 16 megapixels or videos over 1080p will be compressed down, although Google states that the visual quality is virtually untouched. Google also gives you the ability to store up to 15GB of your original file resolution for free with the option to purchase more storage. Doing this, Google Photos can help you clear backed up camera content from your device so you never have to worry about deleting to make space.

Visual Search which provides the user the ability to search their photos by people, places or things. For Example, simply search "food" to locate all photos of food even if it doesn't have a description.

Another feature this application provides is called Photos Assistant. This allows the user to create montage movies, interactive stories, collages and more. Transform your photos with simple but powerful photo and video editing tools.

Sum up this new application with the ability to share your photos instantly with shareable links and the usual social media apps. We continue to use this app ourselves and recommend that you try it out for yourself. After short usage of Google Photos, you will find it to become the home for all your organized videos and photos, searchable by the people, places and things that matter to you.

The Best of Google I/O 2015 Summarized

A new feature from the Android "M" preview is called Now on Tap. It basically uses Google Search inside any application and provide you Google Now cards. You perform this by holding down the home button, Google then scans the content of the page or message you are on and provides the user a Google Now card with additional information. E.g if you and a friend are chatting in an app about a movie and you want to know more about the movie, you would simply hold down the home button and receive information like reviews, actors, or directors.

Google also featured a new mobile payment system at I/O today called Android Pay. Now this difference between Google's existing contactless payment option called Wallet is that Android Pay will now use "tokens." This means that you will not be using your actual credit card information for your transactions, a virtual credit card number will be used instead. It should be stated that this means of contactless payment is already available with Apple and Samsung smartphones. Google is simply providing a new twist their own version, as the mobile payment market expects to increase year over year.
The announcement of the updated application Google Photos happens to be our personal favorite of Google I/O. The reason it is our favorite is simply because we are able to use it today. That's right, you can go into the Play Store and install the Google Photos application right now even if you are an iPhone user. With this new Google Photos app it is now a stand alone application that does not require the log-in of your Google Plus account. They are providing a clean experience with a few new features. With the installation of this app the user is provided free unlimited storage of compressed photos and videos with the option to keep the original resolution on a Google Drive account. We have it installed the app and will provide a review after a few days of use but it is safe to safe that we like what we see.

Money Making Apps Part 1: App Review

Most users are unaware of the potential extra income you could receive simply by installing a few apps on your smartphone or tablet. This article will be the first of a few that will help you obtain gift cards, rewards and even a little extra spending money merely by using a preselected app a few minutes each day.

First and foremost, you should know that there are plenty of "make money with apps" on the Google Play Store and Apple's App Store. That being said, these applications will not allow you to quit your day job or retire early. Also if an application that promises you "rewards" or money sounds too good to be true, it most likely is.

Now that we have gotten the formalities out of the way; let's jump right into our first money making app review. This application also happens to be our personal favorite because of how easy it is to use. The application is called Google Opinion Rewards and yes, unfortunately it is only available to Android users currently.
While this application doesn't provide cash, it does reward the user with Google Play credits. These credits can be redeemed for additional applications, music, books or movies in the Play Store. Simply sign-in with your existing Google account after installation; answer the surveys (with honesty or not) to start receiving the credits. Rewards vary from 10 cents to a dollar depending on the length of the survey. It takes time to earn enough credit for decent games or movies, but you can earn enough for an app after just one or two surveys.

The sheer ease of this money making app is the reason behind our number one listing. The only negative is that you are not receiving cash for your information or time. Overall, we believe the Google Opinion Rewards app to be a must have for any Android user interested in purchasing content without reaching for their own wallet.
