The world's largest electronics manufacturer Foxconn has reduced employee strength from 110,000 to 50,000 due to the introduction of robots. Although, Foxconn states robots are not a threat to human workers, economists and tech experts are less convinced. The manufacturer is based in China and supplies components to both Samsung and Apple.

Twitter announced that it is reducing what counts toward its trademark 140-character tweet limit. Over the coming months, the “@username” won’t count toward the limit. Media attachments such as photos, videos, polls, or GIFs will also no longer take up character space. India launched its first reusable space shuttle today. Early reports predicted the shuttle wasn’t expected to survive the landing. However, scientists managed to guide the craft into a soft descent into the Bay of Bengal intact. At 22 feet, India reusable shuttle is little, and its $14 million price tag is similarly minuscule. Yet there’s nothing small about the launch itself. It’s a huge milestone for India and for the growth of reusable spacecraft worldwide.

A company has created autonomous delivery robots which successfully carried pizza from a local pizzeria in Tallinn, Estonia Starship Technologies' robots can carry items within a three-mile radius and claims they’ll get to a consumer’s front door in less than 30 minutes. The company says the full-consumer launch will be in the U.S. by 2017.

A recent study has shown that the average age for children receiving their first smartphone is now 10. Also, 64% of kids have access to the Internet via their own device, compared to 42% in 2012. Today Google announced two new applications at their annual developer conference. Allo is a "smart text messaging" app that Google's new digital assistance software. Duo is a video calling app that gives you a view of who's calling before you pick up. Unfortunately, we have to wait to download both of these apps. The good news is they’re already in the Play Store to pre-register right now. Google stated that they will arrive sometime this year.
