It seems the tech world is ready for better Wi-Fi because today the Wi-Fi Alliance is announcing an update to its certification program for modern Wi-Fi devices. This will require all new products to support faster speeds, wider channel bandwidth and additional spacial stream while sending data to multiple devices at the same time. Routers that support these key features will be capable of delivering three times the speed of current devices. Reports state we'll start to see the first of these certified Wi-Fi devices appearing "in weeks."

Even though the UK’s exit from the European Union may have satisfied nearly 52% of those who voted to leave, don't count Samsung, LG, or Acer among them. These tech companies are already experiencing decreasing sales in the EU and due to these concerns, both LG and Samsung are reportedly thinking about relocating their London offices. In addition, due to this unprecedented event, the British pound has weakened, which could lead to increased prices of electronics.

Android phones are all over the place and Google doesn't have that much control over them. Outside of its Nexus devices even Google's software is altered with skins and overlays. However, an analyst stated that Google is concerned about Android fragmenting and that they mean to control more of the platform similar to Apple by releasing hardware along with their software. Google already does this with it's Pixel branded laptops and tablets. This is likely to happen with smartphones for a more well-rounded slate of products. Could we see a Pixel smartphone? Incipio just announced that it's buying headphone brand Skullcandy in a deal worth $177 million. The California-based phone case company is quietly becoming an accessory powerhouse with the purchase of backpack maker Incase and lead iPad case maker ClamCase. Incipio states that the deal won't erase the Skullcandy brand. However, don't be surprised if this leads to crossovers where some of Skullcandy's influence rubs off on Incipio's other gadgets.

Social networks are making a strong push for live streaming. Today, YouTube announced the ability to live stream content to its iOS and Android apps. YouTube mobile live streaming will be baked into the core YouTube app. Simply hit the capture button, take a photo to use as a thumbnail and then broadcast live to your fans and chat in near real time. YouTube’s announcement comes just days after Twitter's and Periscope's live streaming integration and Tumblr's announcement of similar capabilities.

The rules regarding flying drones in the U.S. have been relaxed, paving the way for businesses to fly legally in the country's airspace. Previous Federal Aviation Authority rules required commercial operators obtain a pilot's licence in order to fly even small drones. It now allows commercial drones weighing up to 55lbs to fly during daylight and lower than 400 feet in the air, or higher if within 400 feet of a taller building. While the FAA's rules have no impact on hobbyists, insiders predict a flood of drone-related businesses to take shape in the U.S.

Today the electric car company Tesla announced it's offer to acquire solar panel installation company SolarCity. Together the companies could allow you to outfit your home with solar panels that power a battery for your car and home. Their aim is to would be the world’s only vertically integrated energy company offering end-to-end clean energy products to their customers. Fun fact: Elon Musk owns both Tesla and SolarCity. Which means one Elon Musk company is offering to buy another Elon Musk company for $2.8B. Truly inspiring.

Google is improving it's search results for symptoms by narrowing down potential causes of sicknesses before you might jump to the scariest conclusions. Google will also provide simple self-treated remedies or notify the user if it is serious enough to justify a trip to the clinic. The company stresses that it is "for informational purposes only," recommending that actual doctors still take precedence when it comes to giving medical advice. The improved symptom-search will be available on mobile devices over the next few days.

Microsoft's acquisition of LinkedIn may potentially be a savvy move. Business wise, they serve similar age groups and provide expert level enterprise solutions. Microsoft finally gets a social presence that fits nicely into its philosophies. However, at $26.2 billion, it is by far Microsoft’s largest acquisition ever and Microsoft has never done well with large acquisitions as seen with Yammer, Skype and Nokia.

Today, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group shared what we can expect from the evolving technology. The next version will quadruple the range of connections and double their speeds without increase in power consumption. Bluetooth version 5 also increases broadcasting capacity eight-fold, meaning much more data can be sent in a single interaction. The release of Bluetooth 5 is expected early 2017.

Apple just unveiled iOS 10 at its annual developer conference with a bunch of new features. Apple redesigned the lock screen, the notification center and even the Photos app. You’ll also be surprised to learn that iOS 10 will finally allow users to remove those pesky pre-installed Apple apps and reclaim the valuable space they’ve occupied for years. Facebook launched Safety Check in October 2014 in Japan due to the country's tendency for natural disasters. Facebook has officially switched on the Safety Check feature for users in the US following the attack in Orlando early today. Reportedly, Google co-founder Larry Page has been personally funding a pair of startups devoted to creating flying cars. Page has reportedly funded one startup with more than $100 million since its creation in 2010. The company has been conducting test flights of its "small conventional plane" prototypes at an airport close to Google's headquarters with aerospace engineers from NASA, Boeing, and SpaceX.

It seems people are no longer rushing to buy smartphones like they used to. Predictions show global smartphone sale growth will reach 7% in 2016, down significantly from the 14.4% growth in 2015. Part of this trend can be attributed to companies introducing only incrementally improved features, not very different from what smartphones already do. The Golden State Warriors use technology to their on-court advantage. The team is among the first in the NBA to install cameras that track when players touch or shoot the ball during a game. During practice, the players wear monitors that gauge heart rates, movement and stamina. They even wear "smart" sleep masks to monitor potential recovery sleep patterns. The Warriors are currently in the NBA finals playing for their second championship in two years.

The European Union has increased efforts leading to this code of conduct following the recent terrorist attacks in Brussels and Paris. Meet the Asus Zenbo, a robot designed to help out around the house. This robot butler provides reminders for appointments or mediation with vocal responses. Zenbo has a camera for face recognition and video calls. It can play music or movies or help out with various online tasks. It can even monitor the home remotely. All actions are performed with voice commands. The Zenbo robot will be $599 respectively, although Asus yet to announce a release date.
