Microsoft is gearing up to compete with Google's Chromebooks in the education space. Today, Microsoft announced Windows 10 S, a more streamlined version of their operating system that strictly runs optimized apps from the Windows Store and doesn't require expensive hardware.
Entry-level Windows 10 S devices will start at $189, which could help intrigue students, teachers and even entire schools to purchase. Acer, Asus, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Samsung and Toshiba are all currently working on Windows 10 S laptops.
Schools will be able to download Windows 10 S for free if they want to upgrade older devices to this new version. Office 365 apps will also be free for both students and teachers.
