Last year, Google purchased a chunk of HTC’s smartphone design talent for $1.1 billion. The deal transferred more than 2,000 employees to work on Google’s line of Pixel devices. Now it seems HTC is getting ready to lay off nearly 25% of its current workforce. After these cuts, HTC’s employee count will be less than 5,000 people worldwide. Five years ago, the company employed 19,000 people. Today, HTC is primarily focused on their VR product line. Are they done with smartphones? What do you guys think?
